On June 5, 2022, my poem "Beloved Child," written in response to the horrendous Uvalde, Texas massacre of children, was published by Topical Poetry. Click on the link to see the website. I am THRILLED because this poem has a big piece of my heart and soul in it. Also, I got notified that it would be published on my birthday, which was an extra sweet treat <3

About my poetry
I started writing poetry seriously a few years ago when I became a mother and got divorced all at the same time. Dealing with the tectonic shifts of myself in relation to my family, as a mother and as a daughter, brought up some powerful emotions that I've tried to explore through my poetry.
It took me a long time to see myself as a poet. In real life, I'm boisterous, funny and outrageous. I've been told that I have a real kind of "in your face insouciance." I've been compared to a "full court press," which I believe is a basketball reference. Growing up, the only place I was really given to process my emotions was in my writing, so as a result, my poetry is contemplative and vulnerable, which is sometimes at odds with how I present myself in the world. In other ways, it is my most authentic self-expression. I'm attempting to reconcile those worlds by claiming them both as a part of my complex identity. As Walt Whitman is oft quoted: I contain multitudes.
